Ceres applauds the Pennsylvania House of Representatives’ Committee on Environmental and Natural Resource Protection for advancing the PRESS Act, which will invite investment in reliable, affordable, clean power sources across the Commonwealth.Â
The PRESS (Pennsylvania Reliable Energy Sustainability Standards) Act would update the state’s energy standards by setting a goal for 35% of the state’s power generation to come from clean resources by 2035. It was approved by the committee today and will now head to the full House of Representatives for consideration.Â
“Ceres and the businesses we work with thank committee members for approving this needed update to Pennsylvania’s energy standards. This legislation will further burnish the Commonwealth’s legacy as an energy powerhouse, ensuring Pennsylvania remains on the cutting edge of energy innovation and positioning it to affordably and reliably meet the economy’s rising electricity needs,” said Jeff Mauk, director of eastern state policy, Ceres. “As they seek clean energy to power their own operations, businesses support this legislation not only to help them access the energy they need but because they recognize that investing in the most affordable power resources brings benefits across the economy. We strongly support its prompt passage in the House.”Â
Ceres continues to support many large companies operating in Pennsylvania in their advocacy for PRESS. Earlier this year, 10 businesses and trade groups – including Akamai Technologies, IKEA, Nestlé, and REI – called on Gov. Josh Shapiro and Pennsylvania lawmakers to pass the PRESS Act.
“Passing legislation to codify the 35% clean energy by 2035 goal will attract new investment, encourage innovation, save homeowners and businesses money on their energy bills, and ensure environmental benefits for all Pennsylvanians,” they wrote.Â
